KNEC Announces Teacher Exams Dates and 2023 Registration Deadline
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has announced that registration for the 2023 teacher education examinations is available till January 20.
In a statement dated January 13, KNEC outlined the list of examinations that interested teachers might register for in the academic year 2023.
These teacher education examinations are professional examinations presented to prospective teachers at various levels.
“Additionally, candidates who were referred to Primary Education (PTE) examination, which has been phased out, shall be allowed to re-sit the papers referred for the last time in March/April 2023. After that, KNEC shall not offer the PTE examination,” KNEC added.
Upgrade Diploma in Primary Education (UDPTE), Upgrade Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Teacher Education (UDECTE), Certificate in Primary Teacher Education (PTE) for candidates referred in previous years, and a Teacher Certificate for Adult Education (TCAE) are some of the examinations.
Other certifications include a Diploma in Teacher Education (DTE), a Diploma in Special Education, and a Diploma and Certificate in Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE).
Students who seek to specialize in Early Childhood Education undertake ECDE-accredited courses.
After passing the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination, students who intend to teach at the Primary School level enroll in the PTE, a two-year program.
All participants receive a certificate in Primary Teacher Education upon completion of the program.
The TCAE examination, on the other hand, is a two-year course that students who intend to teach at an adult education facility must complete after passing the KCSE.
On behalf of KNEC, the Directorate of Adult and Continuing Education within the Ministry of Education administers the exam to eligible Kenyan candidates.
All interested teachers have been encouraged to register before the deadline.
