KMTC Opens State-Of-The-Art Marsabit Campus for Medical Courses

The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) received a state-of-the-art Marsabit Campus on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, to mount medical courses. The fully-furnished and equipped, two-storey building is an initiative of the County Government of Marsabit.

Governor Mohammed Ali highlighted the significance of devolution, expressing gratitude for the constitutional shift that enabled the development. The two-story facility boasts 10 lecture halls, 21 offices, a computer lab, library, boardroom, and skills laboratory, ensuring a conducive learning environment.

Governor Ali emphasized the Campus’s role in nurturing well-trained health professionals for the county and the nation. Situated at the base of a hill, next to the forested Marsabit National Park, the location provides a serene atmosphere for learning.

The facility brings KMTC’s world-class training, research, and knowledge to the heart of Marsabit to help tackle many of the most difficult challenges facing the region.

Mr. Joseah K. Cheruiyot, KMTC Board Chairperson, acknowledged Governor Ali’s efforts in constructing the Campus, underlining its positive impact on healthcare accessibility for Marsabit residents and Kenyans at large.

With a projection of more than 1,000 students, staff, and guardians trickling in the region, it brings new life to the county. Dr. Kelly Oluoch, CEO, disclosed that the Campus has already issued admission letters to 153 students from the region.

He mentioned, “We are starting with courses in Community Health Assistant and Health Records and Information Technology.

We will progressively introduce additional courses such as Clinical Medicine and Nursing.” Dr. Oluoch encouraged locals to utilize the facility for education and encouraged them to construct hostels for the students.

The event was attended by County officials including Members of the County Assembly, Chief Officers, KMTC Board Directors Paul Cheboi and Hardlyne Lusui, along with staff and students.
