In Kisii County, ECDE teachers who had been under contract for over eleven years have now secured permanent and pensionable positions.

Following a thorough vetting process, 714 of these educators met the criteria for permanent hiring. However, some applicants faced rejection due to the discovery of fake documents during the vetting process.

County Governor Simba Arati expressed his commitment to taking action against individuals who submitted fraudulent documents.

He revealed that the names of such individuals have already been forwarded to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) for appropriate measures.

Emphasizing the severity of the situation, Arati made these remarks during a gathering with the teachers at the Gusii Stadium on Wednesday.

During the investigation, it was revealed that one imposter had presented an ECDE college certificate without having completed her O-level studies.

Arati suggested the possibility of collusion between some applicants and his officers to obtain recommendation letters. He urged the Chairman of the Public Service Board, Elijah Obebo, to take decisive action in response to these irregularities.

Governor Arati disclosed the new salary structure for the permanently hired teachers, indicating that they would now earn between Sh. 26,000 and Sh. 39,000 based on their qualifications.

This marks a significant improvement from their previous contract terms, where they earned between Sh. 12,000 and Sh. 14,000 since 2013.

Highlighting the potential for career advancement, Arati encouraged Certificate and Diploma holders among the teachers to pursue further studies. Notably, three teachers were recognized for holding Masters in ECDE.

Additionally, the Governor emphasized that those now employed on permanent and pensionable terms are eligible for transfers and called upon the Department of Education to exercise consideration in this regard.
