Kisii County to Sack ECDE Teachers Over Strike, Replace Them With Voluntary Teachers
Kisii Governor Simba Arati has threatened to sack Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers in the region if they attempt to carry out their September 14, 2023, strike threat.
The ECDE teachers had previously informed the police of their intended strike, which they claim is a result of the Kisii County government’s failure to address their complaints, such as pay raises.
Governor Arati, speaking to the public in Kisii town on Thursday, remarked that there are a large number of qualified but unemployed ECDE teachers who are prepared to fill the positions of their demos-bound colleagues.
“We kuja, fanya maandamano…ukimaliza ujue kuna watu wengi. We can employ those people. Huwezi kuwa unalipwa pesa tena unakuja kuandamana…ati tukuweke kwa payroll,” he said.

He added that he will not allow kids to be deprived of an education during the aforementioned demonstration period, implying that his administration will employ volunteer teachers.
“Wacha watoto wasisome siku hiyo…mtajua. Tutahakikisha kuna walimu wengi volunteers, wataenda kufundisha huko. Hamwezi tutishia sisi hapa,” said the bullish county boss.
Accordingly, the Governor of Kisii noted that in the past, teachers’ grievances were raised through the now-disbanded County Public Service Board, which resulted in delays in resolving the issues.
