Kiambu National Polytechnic has launched an international hospitality apprenticeship programme that will provide structured training and employment opportunities in Germany for young Kenyans pursuing careers in the hospitality industry.

The programme is being implemented in partnership with Berufliches Schulzentrum (BSZ) Erding and the German Hotel and Restaurant Association (DEHOGA) Bavaria. The partnership aims to enhance the capacity of Kenyan trainees through exposure to European hospitality standards, language proficiency and workplace practices aligned to international benchmarks.

According to the institution, the programme is part of a broader strategy to bridge the skills gap in Kenya’s hospitality sector, improve youth employability and create sustainable pathways for international employment.

The apprenticeship is open to individuals aged 18-24 years who have a minimum Level 4 certificate in Food and Beverage or Catering and Accommodation or have at least two years of practical experience in the hospitality industry. Applicants must also demonstrate German language proficiency at A1 level, as per the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

The training will be done in two phases. The first phase is a six-month blended learning course at Kiambu National Polytechnic from January to July 2026. During this period, trainees will receive instruction in German language and professional hospitality practice. The local training component is designed to align with the German vocational education and training (VET) framework so that participants are well prepared for the German work environment.
