Kenyatta Praise His Legacy In Education Sector.President Uhuru Kenyatta has praised his legacy, claiming that his administration has been essential in reforming the education system since assuming power in 2013.The national government has hired 120,153 new teachers since 2013.The President praised the 2018 policy of 100% transfer to secondary schools, claiming that since its start, Form 1 enrolment has more than quadrupled to 3.6 million in 2022, up from 1.3 million in 2008.“The 100 per cent transition policy has ensured all our learners who sit the KCPE examination obtain a place in a secondary school and this has been a huge success,” he said.According to the President, more than 90% of those who took the KCPE test in 2018 went on to secondary school adding that because secondary education is free, more than 70% of pupils attend day schools.He also stated that his administration raised the capitation per kid in secondary school to Sh22,244 to ensure that no child is left behind due to economic circumstances.President Kenyatta stated that underprivileged students are helped through several scholarship programs, including the President’s Elimu Scholarship.“The government has also in partnership with the Equity Group Foundation awarded approximately 9,000 scholarships for the 2019 KCPE exam candidates and an additional 9,000 scholarships for the 2020 KCPE exam candidates who joined Form 1 in July 2021,” he said.Uhuru stated that the administration was overhauling education to make it suitable for the twenty-first century.He stated that the government began the Competency-Based Reforms in 2016, and that the CBC attempts to recognize and cultivate learners’ potential.The emphasis of CBC is on actual learning rather than academic learning. According to Uhuru, it also emphasizes the application of information and the growth of expertise rather than merely regular memorization of content.The CBC will also give opportunities for learners to acquire values and participate in community service learning, as well as paths and tracks in senior high school that are linked with their wide strengths and professional ambitions.“We have also remained focused on education quality, my administration has provided free books to every child, and we as a country have now achieved a pupil to book ratio of one in all our public primary and secondary schools,” he said.Recognizing the importance of teachers in guaranteeing educational excellence, the President further stated that the government has engaged in a vigorous teacher training program.It has also increased the budgeted allocation for training from Sh116.4 billion in 2013 to Sh288.6 billion in the current fiscal year.He further stated that the government, through the National Health Insurance Fund, has given full medical coverage for both instructors and pupils.The President also highlighted that his government launched a digital learning program in 2013 that provided learning equipment to instructors and students.ALSO READDigital gadgets have been distributed to a total of 21,717 elementary schools out of a total of 22,988 with the government stating that by the time the student reaches secondary school, they will be technologically literate.Uhuru lauded Kenya’s education system, stating it was among the greatest in the world, producing students who could compete with the rest of the world.Kenyatta Praise His Legacy In Education Sector
