Kenyan Student Drowns in Stockton Lake in Australia

An undergraduate from Kenya drowned while swimming in a lake in Stockton, Newcastle.

On Saturday, according to police, Orville Kimutai Tures drowned in Stockton Lake in the western Australian community of Shotts.

The 23-year-old student has been studying in Perth since March and was swimming at approximately 3:15 p.m. when the incident occurred.

Police stated that lakeshore-dwelling members of the public could not assist Tures.

According to a report by the Western Australia Police Force, the student needed help in the water, and members of the public on shore were unable to provide it. Police then arrived at the scene and initiated a search.

On Monday, police divers discovered the student’s body.

Since then, Tures’s family has created a GoFundMe page to raise funds for the repatriation of his body to Kapteren, Keiyo north in Elgeyo Marakwet County.

“The family in Kenya is mourning their beloved son, who is miles away. We would like to respectfully request your support and prayers during this difficult time. The late Orville’s body is still with Bunbury police,” the family says on the crowdfunding platform.
