Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) Chairman Kahi Indimuli, advised students who are stressed or uninterested in learning to go home rather than causing disruptions in the school.
Indimuli Kahi, the Chief Principal of Machakos Boys, believes that students who burned down school buildings last year should have been allowed to go home if they were stressed and unable to comply with school rules.
“School burning does not help; any student who feels stressed should not stay in school to destroy property and influence others but should ask for permission to go home, and the request will be granted,” Indimuli said to the press at Machakos Boys High School.
He urged parents to talk to their children before sending them to school in the future to see if they are willing to study and stay for the entire term.
“The school calendar is out; parents and students have an option. It is crucial for parents to discuss with their children so that if the students find it difficult to sit in school for the whole term, then they should not report to school but stay home as individuals,” added the Principal.
Indimuli supported the Ministry of Education’s directive that all students at Maranda High School undergo drug tests while reporting to school, stating that the initiative would benefit both parents and the school by allowing the school to find remedial measures for those found abusing drugs.
“If the school administration and the Board of Management notice some students behaving awkwardly in contravention of school rules, then it would be right to order a drug test to find mitigation measures to assist the students,” said Indimuli.

He also urged parents to reach an agreement with school heads on fee payment in order to ensure seamless learning.
He added that, despite financial difficulties, parents should not pile up school fee arrears because doing so has an impact on the operation of learning institutions because school capitation does not cover boarding fees.
