Kenya Africa’s 5th Best in Education, top 100 Globally in Latest Ranking
Kenya became one of the top five African nations in the most recent Global Innovation Index ranking as a result of investments in education and four other sectors vital to the success of the government.
Despite a three-point decrease from the 2021 ranking, Kenya emerged 88th in the world after investments in education were considered as a crucial strength.
Due to the government’s expenditures in the education sector, Kenya ranked 48th globally in this area.
Kenya scored fifth in Africa on the World Intellectual Property Organization’s (WIPO) 2022 index, behind Mauritius, South Africa, Morocco, and Botswana.
In contrast, Switzerland ranked first globally, followed by the United States, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands.
The statement stated in part, “Kenya outperforms its income group in institutions, business sophistication, knowledge and technology outputs, and creative outputs.”
The 2022 ranking analyzed the most recent global innovation trends, taking into account productivity growth and other economic issues.
However, pupil-to-teacher ratio in secondary schools, enrolment in higher institutions, and university performance in various rankings were identified as sectoral weaknesses.
Other strengths for Kenya included market investments, payments for intellectual property, imports of high technology, and labor productivity development.
“Several developing economies are performing above expectations on innovation relative to their level of economic development.
The report added, "India, Kenya, the Republic of Moldova, and Vietnam hold the record by outperforming for the 12th consecutive year.”
In 2022, however, applied tariff rates in commerce, electricity output, and the import of ICT services were noted as weaknesses.
