KCSE 2023 Results: Maseno School Dominates Nyanza Old Luminaries

Good performance was observed in the Form Four examinations conducted last year in secondary schools across the Nyanza region. Key institutions such as Maseno School, Mbita High, Orero Boys, Kanga High, St Albert’s Ulanda Girls, St Joseph’s Rapogi, and Rabondo High School produced impressive results.

In Kisumu County, Maseno School witnessed jubilant celebrations as students and educators commemorated the outstanding performance of last year’s candidates, many of whom achieved university entry grades.

Maseno School student Okoth Enock Omondi, who achieved straight As in all eight subjects with a total of 84 points in the recently released Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), is being lauded for his hard work. Teachers at the school expressed that Omondi’s outstanding score did not come as a surprise, as he consistently performed well in internal exams leading up to the KNEC-administered assessment.

Deputy Principal Peter Nyawach highlighted Omondi’s historical achievement in internal examinations, noting that he became the first student to attain a perfect score of 84 points. Nyawach emphasized that Omondi’s excellence was not limited to specific subjects, showcasing proficiency in languages, sciences, and humanities.

Speaking to the media at the school, Nyawach expressed pride in Omondi’s performance, emphasizing the school’s commitment to a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) focus. The Deputy Principal outlined the school’s aspiration to become a preferred STEM institution, aiming to provide students with a competitive edge when pursuing courses at universities and technical institutions.

The overall performance of the 2023 cohort was described as exemplary, with Maseno School maintaining a mean score of 9.543, equivalent to a B plus. Nyawach stated that the school’s expectations were met and expressed optimism for even better results in the upcoming year, as the administration continues to prioritize STEM education.

Mbita High School in Homabay County celebrated remarkable results, with 16 As, 73 A-, 103 B+, 96 B, 94 B-, 36 C+, and only one C-. Principal Kennedy Ojijo credited the achievement to divine intervention and expressed gratitude to teachers, parents, and students for their collaborative efforts, resulting in 420 out of 424 students attaining university entry grades.

In Migori County, Kanga High School, Kanyawanga, St Joseph’s Rapogi High School, Ulanda Girls, and Rabondo Secondary School also reported impressive performances.

Orero High School in Homa Bay County achieved a mean grade of 9.2885, with one student securing a straight A, 58 scoring A-, 149 with B+, and 186 with B. Principal Dickens Bula attributed the success to collaboration among the Board of Management, parents, and students.

At Oriwo Boys’ High School, the institution achieved a mean score of 7.972, with students obtaining A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, and D-. Principal Henry Airo thanked teachers, the Board of Management, and parents for their cooperation.

Asumbi Girls Secondary School in Homabay County also performed exceptionally well, securing a mean score of 10.37. All registered candidates received a grade of C+ and above in the 2023 KCSE exams, ensuring their eligibility for university admission in 2024.

Agoro Sare High School stood out nationally, garnering a Mean Score of 8.935 points, equivalent to a mean grade of B (plain).

Kanga High School in Rift Valley continued its impressive track record, recording a mean score of 9.2445 points (B plain). Out of the 409 candidates who sat for the 2023 KCSE exams, 374 attained the direct university entry grade, representing a remarkable 91 percent.
