KASNEB Exams: Karumo TTI Student Best In East Africa
Karumo Technical Training Institute has once again surprised the East African region by providing this year’s best student in the Kenya Accountants and Secretaries National Examinations Board (KASNEB) exams.
This comes a year after the little-known institution in the semi-arid Tigania West Sub-County was selected as the best-performing tertiary institution in the country from a list of 135 other institutions for the fiscal year 2021-2022.
The best student, Elijah Mumo, says that while he knew he would do well in the Management Accounting examination, which is the final one in Diploma Level 3, he didn’t anticipate being named the best student in the region.
“I got an email congratulating me on my success and, at the same time, inviting me to an award ceremony at KCA University, which took place on November 9 this year. This was the time that I knew I had performed exemplarily well, and I thank God for the favour,” said Mumo.

He stated that the feeling of having passed the examination was and still is excellent, and that he expects to excel in the same manner at his current Certified Public Accountant (CPA) level.
“I am usually good in computations, which account for 70 percent of the exam, but I was not sure what I would score in the theory part, which accounts for the remaining 30 percent.”
“Though they didn’t give me a specific score, I am sure I got a good mark in all the sections to make me the best student among my colleagues from Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi, and my own country Kenya,” Mr. Mumo stated.
Mr Mumo is currently enrolled in the same institution’s CPA intermediate-level course.

Mumo’s trainer, Collins Kirimi, said he was fortunate to have a student for level three of the Accounting Technician Diploma in management accounting who also performed well.
Mumo’s performance, he noted, will motivate more pupils to follow in his footsteps because he has already shown them that it is feasible.

Mr. Kirimi stated that securing the top position in a specific subject indicates that a student outperformed all others who took the exam across the countries where KASNEB assessments are conducted.
Though he was ignorant of the overall number of students, which is a reserve for KASNEB, Kirimi stated that many students from the five countries offering the examinations must have registered for the same paper.

Ms. Florah Kanyua, the Principal of the school, expressed her institution’s delight as the boy achieved the top rank among numerous students who took the exams.
She attributed this to the students’ discipline and the trainers’ commitment to assisting the students as needed.
“Discipline, hard work, and commitment from both learners and trainers are some factors that have made us realise high pass rates. As we speak now, our school has a mean score of 82 percent, which is quite high considering the number of candidatures we had in the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) July series,” said Ms. Kanyua.
She added: “As an institution we also embrace teamwork and through this we can assist our students, and trainers are also able to assist one another, and that way we can achieve our targets.”

Encouraging parents, she urged them to send their children to such institutes irrespective of their high school grades, asserting that these institutions will mold them into significant individuals in the future.
