Kakamega County Increases ECDE Teacher Salary By Sh.10000
Kakamega County has increased salary for ECDE Teachers by SH.10,000 as it spends more than Sh 54 million on chairs and tables for 306 Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) centres.
County Governor Wycliffe Oparanya stated that teachers with certificate holders whose salary was at Sh.8000 has been increased to SH.10,000 while certificate holders’ salary has been raised by a similar amount.
This means that their salary has been increased from Ksh. 10,000 to Sh 18,000. Diploma holders were not left out as their salary has been increased from SH.12,000 to KSH.20,000.
‘The county government has also increased the salaries of these teachers from Sh8000 to Sh16000 for those who are certificate holders and from Sh 10,000 to Sh 18,000 for diploma holders and from Sh 12,000 to for those with a degree to 20000,” he said.
This is part of a service scheme enacted to allow teachers to earn the same as those in primary and secondary schools.

According to the Governor, the county government has collaborated with the Kenya Literature Bureau (KLB) to print and publish branded teaching and learning materials.
The materials he said have been distributed to all ECDE centres and polytechnics.
In total, the county government has spent 49 million shillings on ECDE and 24 million shillings on county polytechnics according to the governor.
He stated that the county has so far spent Sh530 million on infrastructure development for ECDE centers.

Elsewhere, Lamu county government has launched a mass teacher training program for Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE).
The move aims to improve educational quality under the new curriculum.
