Kakamega County Hires More ECDE TeachersKakamega County Government has made achievements in enhancing Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) by hiring 216 more teachers across the county.During the induction of the newly hired teachers, County Executive Committee Member for Education (CECM) George Akolo Lutomia stated that the newly hired instructors are competent and properly trained to work with children.“We have partnered with World Vision to impart new knowledge and skills to the teachers and the emerging trends in education as most teachers were trained a long time ago,” he said.During the induction, which took place at the Kakamega Golf Hotel, Lutomia stated that the instructors were also instructed on child play roles and nutrition programs, and that World Vision will continue to train the ECDE teachers.“The teachers will be impacted with skills on how to take care of 0-6 year children and also how they will nurture their nutrition and show them how they can child-play amongst themselves before they move to grade one,” Lutomia said.Kakamega County Government has made achievements in enhancing Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) by hiring 216 more teachers across the county.During the induction of the newly hired teachers, County Executive Committee Member for Education (CECM) George Akolo Lutomia stated that the newly hired instructors are competent and properly trained to work with children.“We look forward to training and bringing on board all the 2016 teachers across the country to benefit from our devolved assignment of ECDE and polytechnics,” he said.During the induction, which took place at the Kakamega Golf Hotel, Lutomia stated that the instructors were also instructed on child play roles and nutrition programs, and that World Vision will continue to train the ECDE teachers.CEC said that they have a Memorandum of Understanding with the Kenya Literature Bureau (KLB), which offers learners with reading and learning resources.He also stated that they have set aside Sh. 1,000 per kid for any extra equipment that may be required, as well as to compensate the instructors on the Board of Management (BOM).Lutomia stressed that ECDE education in Kakamega County is free, with the exception of the parent’s obligation to purchase uniforms and provide meals.The CEC expressed concern about the enormous expense of the feeding program, citing the county’s 240,000 ECDE youngsters, with most centers housing more than 100 children.He stated that the County has set aside funds for the food program and would collaborate closely with groups such as Save the Children International and UNICEF to address the food program’s challenges.ALSO READ:We are also building a milk plant in Malava that will deliver milk to schools, ensuring that children eat nutritional meals.Kakamega County Hires More ECDE Teachers
