Kaimosi Friends University (KAFU) Admits 1,118 Students After Charter

The newly chartered Kaimosi Friends University (KAFU) in Vihiga County has accommodated 1,118 new undergraduate students.

This comes just a month after former President Uhuru Kenyatta elevated it to a full-fledged university.

The students will take courses in nursing and medicine, among others.

Following KAFU’s status change, 107 students revised their decision to attend the university.

The university’s total number of students will hit 4,000 as it tries to concentrate on medicine and scientific programs.

Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Jack Nandi attributed the high enrollment rate to the courses provided.

Prof. Nand emphasized the university’s commitment to providing students with a solid career foundation.

He urged students to take advantage of the university’s facilities and possibilities and focus on establishing the foundations for an independent life in their chosen careers.

Prof. Nandi stated that KAFU is revising its programs following the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

“Preparations to receive the first CBC cohort into the university system in 2029 are in top gear,” he said.

Administrators at KAFU said last month that the university would offer training in health sciences to increase its relevance in a crowded field.

Prof. Nandi stated that students would be taught about local and international employment and self-employment.

He encouraged the authorities of Vihiga County to consider establishing a sophisticated referral hospital that would offer internship opportunities to students.

Prof. Nandi stated that KAFU’s nursing and medical schools would grant degrees and diplomas.

“We want to be relevant to this community by training individuals who can be absorbed into the global job market and even start their own jobs,” he said in August.

In addition to ophthalmology training, KAFU intends to develop specialists in eye care. Prof. Nandi stated that the university was considering working with Sabattus Eye Hospital to provide training and internships.
