Junior Secondary Intern Teachers Threaten To Strike If TSC Doesn’t Employ Them On Permanent Terms
A faction of junior secondary school (JSS) teacher interns in Migori County have expressed discontent with the Ministry of Education for allegedly failing to demonstrate sufficient consideration in their request for permanent employment.
Following a meeting with the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), they expressed their concern that permanent employment should be granted to them upon successful completion of the new curriculum training.
Orwa Jasolo, chairman of the Teachers’ Union in the Migori branch, criticized the government for breaking its word regarding the permanent employment of the teachers.

“If the government does not reconsider this approach, it is possible that teachers will be absent from classes the following year.” “In the absence of confirmation of the interns by January, industrial action will be implemented,” he threatened.
Teachers have also expressed dissatisfaction with being compelled to teach subjects outside of their area of expertise.
“There are up to 14 learning areas that one or two teachers are supposed to handle,” a spokesperson stated.
