Junior High School Placement Will Be Fair – Magoha.

Prof Magoha has assured teachers, parents, students, and all stakeholders in education that the placement of the 1.28 million pupils that will be transitioning to junior secondary school would be fair.

“I know you are still worried about the engagement process in terms of how the children are going to be placed.

“It is a work in progress and I will come out and tell you within the next three weeks. There shall not be any discrimination against any child, we shall still have affirmative action. But we are ready for a transition,” said Prof Magoha.

The CS was optimistic about the new curriculum’s rollout, which began in 2017.

He stated that the first phase included the completion of 6,494 junior secondary school classrooms.

The second phase of construction will start next week. 20,000 classrooms are targeted before January next year..

The CS was at MaryJoy Primary School tosuprvise the junior high school facilities.

KPSA Chairman Charles Ochome urged the government to change the education sector gradually.

"We are now talking to the government. We need to build classrooms for junior secondary school as soon as possible. The government has assured us of its support to private stakeholders,” said Mr Ochome.

Capitation for private schools has been ruled out by Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha.

Prof Magoha stated that, despite the good work done by private schools in supplementing education programs, the government does not have enough funds to support students in those schools.

“Where is the capitation going to come from?” posed Prof Magoha.

He stated that because there are people who can afford to pay private school fees for their children, the government does not see why investors should request capitation.
