ICT (Information and Communication Technology) will be a critical delivery tool for all subjects.
Even though the curriculum developer has provided an outline, the nature of what learners will study at the Junior High School level remains a mystery.
This article breaks down the core subjects that students will study under the new system.
In junior secondary, there will be a total of 12 core subjects, some of which will be carried over from the 8-4-4 system.
English, Kiswahili, Mathematics, and Social Studies are among them.
For students who are deaf or hard of hearing, Kenyan Sign Language will be used in place of English and Kiswahili, as well as composition and Insha.
Religious education has also been kept as a required subject. Students will be able to choose between Christian Religious Education, Islamic Religious Education, and Hindu Religious Education.
As core subjects, students will study business studies, agriculture, life skills education, sports, and physical education.
Integrated Science, Health Education, and Pre-Technical and Pre-Career Education are new core subjects introduced in junior secondary.

The primary goal of the pre-technical subject is to prepare students for work by instilling the technical skills and knowledge required to complete specific tasks.
Auto mechanics, accounting, home management, and textiles and clothing are some of the skills that will be taught in pre-technical education.
Woodworking, shorthand, typewriting, technical drawing, metalworking, electricity, and electronics are among the others.

Technical skills are important for a variety of reasons, including the fact that they enable learners to work more efficiently, boost their confidence, and make them more valuable candidates to employers.
Pre-career education, on the other hand, will aim to prepare students to choose their career paths after finishing senior secondary school (Grades 10, 11, and 12).
Career education sharpens their focus so that they can make informed career decisions.
It gives them the skills, knowledge, and encouragement they need to succeed in their chosen career path.
