Indian Scholarships for Kenyan Students; How to Apply

The Government of India has announced the availability of forty-eight (48) scholarships for Kenyan students who wish to pursue undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD studies in India for the academic year 2023-2024.

These scholarships are offered under the Africa Scholarship Scheme (ASS) through the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).

Interested students may apply for these scholarships online through ICCR’s A2A Scholarship Portal from 20th February, 2023 to 30th April, 2023. Applicants have the option to apply to 5 universities/institutions in order of their preference of study.

However, each university/institute has unique eligibility criteria for courses offered, so candidates are advised to visit respective websites of preferred universities to acquaint themselves with course requirements before initiating the application process.

Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics {PCM} is a mandatory requirement for Engineering (BE/B.Tech) courses.

Students who are interested in applying for PhD courses are required to upload a synopsis (proposal) of the research.

Additionally, applicants must be within the age bracket of 18-30 years for Undergraduate/postgraduate courses and 18 to 45 years for PhD programmes at the time of opening the A2A portal.

A 500-word essay in English has been introduced to ascertain a candidate’s English proficiency. Besides, applicants can also submit their TOFEL/IELTS etc. standardized test scores if available.

Admission remains provisional until the time Universities verify the authenticity of original documents. Once the admission is confirmed by the relevant university in India, the High Commission of India in Nairobi will decide on the award of scholarship to the applicant and issue a letter of award of scholarship. The decision of the Mission in award of scholarship will be final.

Students who have previously not availed ICCR scholarship will be given priority in the award of scholarship. The scholarship includes one return economy class airfare to the airport nearest to University/Institute.

Selected candidates will be required to produce a mandatory personal medical insurance valid in India with minimum sum assured for Indian Rupees Five Lakhs per annum (equivalent to US 6800) before traveling or on arrival in India from any of the insurance companies of choice.

Selected students will be required to attend orientation/briefing at the High Commission, Education Wing before traveling to India.
