The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) makes loans available to university students prior to the start of new semesters.
Loanees typically access money through their bank accounts or mobile banking apps, which can be problematic at times, especially for regular expenses required to finance their education.
Here’s how to use your M-PESA wallet to withdraw and use HELB funds.
Procedure
To access your funds via the mobile money service provider, you must first download the M-PESA mobile application from the Google App or Apple Store.
First-time app users must sign up with their registered M-PESA number and details, while those with an existing account can sign in.
Once you’ve created an account, log in to access the homepage and explore the options accessible on the UI.
To open the window, click on the education option under the “services” option and select HELB from the available categories.
After consenting to the terms and conditions, you will be required to register on the HELB mini-app.
You will receive a verification code after signing in, which is required for you to log in.
Once you’ve successfully logged in, use the withdraw option to send the money to your regular M-PESA account.
In 2021, HELB and Safaricom collaborated to launch the M-PESA wallet.
According to the two funds, the decision was made to ensure loanee convenience and to promote financial responsibility.
