As preparations for the funeral of former Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha continued, several prominent individuals reflected on their final moments with him.

One of these was former Interior Permanent Secretary Karanja Kibicho, who visited the late professor’s home on Tuesday, January 31.

During this visit, Kibicho revealed that Magoha had almost quit during his time as Vice-Chancellor at the University of Nairobi.

His resignation plan came as a result of challenges he faced at the institution.

According to Kibicho, Magoha was concerned that he would be mocked for a gazette notice he had issued, and felt overwhelmed by the situation at the university.

He was so serious about quitting that he had already written a resignation letter and called Kibicho to his office to discuss it.

However, Kibicho managed to talk him out of resigning, telling him that he was now in a political arena and that the country was bigger than him.

He encouraged Magoha to tear up the resignation letter and face the situation.

Kibicho’s intervention prevented Magoha from quitting, and he went on to serve as Education Cabinet Secretary until his death.

In his speech at Magoha’s funeral, former President Uhuru Kenyatta offered his condolences to the late CS’s family, disregarding attempts by the current government to go after them for tax evasion.

He assured them that they were part of the family and that he and his administration would be there for them.
