Hospital Hill Qualifies for Handball Finals as Dagoretti Eliminates Dr. Aggrey in Basketball

Hospital Hill, the defending champions of handball, have secured a spot in the finals of the National Secondary School Term One Games in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County. The team from Nairobi easily defeated their opponents, Musingu from Western, with a score of 25-14, bringing them one step closer to defending their title.

The absence of last year’s runners-up, Kamito from Rift Valley, who were disqualified from the competition after fielding ineligible players, has given Hospital Hill more confidence in their ability to win. Emmanuel Wabule, the coach of Hospital Hill, stated that his team is now focused on winning the final match and the upcoming East Africa School Games in Rwanda.

In the girls’ category, Moi Girls Kamusinga, the defending champions, also made it to the finals by defeating Nyathuna from Central 20-7. They will be facing St. Joseph from Rift Valley, who defeated Nyanza’s Miranga Secondary School 22-16.

In rugby 15s, the favorites, All Saints, Embu from Eastern, will be seeking to be crowned the new champions after seeing off Rift Valley’s St. Anthony’s Kitale 18-5 in the first semifinal, winning three out of three matches so far. All Saints will be facing debutants in the 15s competition, Butula from Western, who thrashed another debutant, Ofafa Jericho from Nairobi, 18-0.

In boys’ basketball, defending champions Dr. Aggrey faced Dagoretti High School, their opponent from last year’s final, in a tense and physical encounter. However, Dagoretti took revenge by eliminating Dr. Aggrey 59-52. Eight-time national champions, Laiser Hill, will be facing Dagoretti in the finals after defeating Lukenya 68-36. The two matches were disrupted by rains for about half an hour before resuming.

In the girls’ basketball category, Kaya Tiwi from Coast, the defending champions, made it to the finals by defeating Loreto Girls from Central 49-46 in a tight match played at the Nova Pioneer International School. Kaya Tiwi will be facing Butere from Western, who defeated Nairobi’s Our Lady of Mercy 66-36 in the semifinals.

The National Secondary School Term One Games is an annual event that brings together students from all over the country to compete in various sporting activities. The competition provides an opportunity for young talents to showcase their skills and talents in various disciplines, and it is also an important platform for talent identification and development.

The games have been held since the early 1990s, and they have become an important part of the Kenyan school calendar. The competition has also produced many world-class athletes who have represented Kenya in various international competitions.
