Hope For Grade E KCSE Candidates.On Saturday, Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha released the KCSE 2021 results. According to the results, the number of candidates who received a grade E in the 2021 KCSE nearly doubled to 46,151, up from around 20,000 in 2020. Another troubling statistic shows that 187,264 candidates received a D-.Of the 46,151 candidates who received a grade E, 19,573 were female and the remaining 26,578 were male. This equates to 5.56 percent of all candidates who took the national exam in March 2022.Furthermore, 11% (237) of students with special needs were among the over 46,000 who received one point in each subject. There were 108 girls and 129 boys among the 237 students.Over 800,000 candidates took the KCSE 2021 exam, with only 1,138 receiving an A.Candidates who received an aggregate of Grade E in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) will now be able to pursue higher education to the Doctorate level, thanks to a new directive issued by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).Agnes Wahome, Chief Executive Officer of KUCCPS, stated at a press conference on Monday, November 1, that the students would have the opportunity to pursue their courses all the way to the doctorate level.Many students who received the lowest grades on the exam in previous decades were considered failures and could not be admitted to any post-secondary education institution.The KUCCPS CEO also encouraged the E students to work hard, particularly in English and science courses, in order to secure future employment.“You are the first students to be placed by KUCCPS, you are our ambassadors. You can go into our system, identify a course and within two or three months, (get) placed in Mombasa whether you come from Kakamega, Kisumu or Machakos.”“We want equity to ensure that the country benefits. There are opportunities that Kenyans can take advantage of and move outside of their local areas.
