HELB Portal Now Open for Education Grant Scheme; How to Apply
On April 25th, the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) opened its portal for applications for the 2022-23 National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) Education Grant Scheme.
The grant is exclusively available to students with disabilities who are registered with the NCPWD under the new registration system or migrated to the new system. The grant is open to students enrolled in public and private universities, TVET institutions, approved medical training institutions, and other approved and accredited institutions of higher learning in Kenya.
Eligible students must submit their applications at HELB’s main office, HELB desks at Huduma Centres, or NCPWD County Offices by May 17th, 2023. Successful applicants will receive notifications on the receipt and verification of the application, award, and disbursement of the NCPWD Education Grant awards at a later date.
To apply, eligible students should visit the HELB website (www.helb.co.ke) and access the Student Portal to register, create, and activate an account. While creating the account, they should select the ‘Person With Disability’ option and enter the PWD Certificate Number to access the grant application form.
Then, they should log in, select their level of study, click on ‘Scholarship Application,’ and fill in the NCPWD Education Grant Scheme Application. After confirming that the details in the form are correct, students should print two copies of the duly filled forms. The forms should then be appropriately filled and signed where necessary by a Chief and Commissioner of Oaths.
Finally, students should read, understand, and sign the Data Protection Consent Form and present one copy of the duly filled application form and all attached supporting documents at HELB collection points.
It is important to note that HELB has not yet opened applications for students who sat the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) for admission into institutions of higher learning. This is pending their placement into various institutions by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Services (KUCCPS).
