Headteacher, Staff Members Arrested After Pupil Dies in School

On Saturday, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) apprehended a headteacher in Buruburu following the discovery of a 13-year-old pupil’s lifeless body within the school premises. The Directorate’s report revealed that the pupil had fallen from a higher floor and was found outside the school director’s office.

After conducting investigations, the detectives determined that the injuries on the body did not align with a fall from a higher floor, as suggested by the school management. Subsequently, the school director, accountant, and another staff member were also arrested to assist in the ongoing investigations into the suspected murder.

As per the school director’s report to the police station, the class eight pupil in the boarding institution was declared missing at 6.30 pm after she failed to appear for supper. A search was conducted throughout the eight-storey school building, leading to the discovery of her lifeless body on a 1st-floor balcony outside the Director’s office.

The police have cordoned off the site, now considered a crime scene, instructing both staff and pupils to stay away until the investigations are completed. The body has been transported to Mama Lucy Hospital Mortuary for an autopsy, intending to provide more information on the cause of death.

In a separate incident on Wednesday, parents from a school in Mwingi North enlisted police assistance to investigate the deaths of two pupils a week apart. The pupils exhibited symptoms such as nosebleeds, yellow eyes, vomiting, flu, and severe headaches, prompting concern. Headteacher Josphat Kimotho mentioned that the school allowed several pupils to seek medical attention after reporting severe migraines.

“On Monday, five pupils came to ask for permission to go to the hospital, after reporting having experienced severe headaches. We allowed them to go to a nearby dispensary for treatment,” explained the headteacher. Titus Kasinga, the area Member of the County Assembly (MCA), supported the family in advocating for an investigation, emphasizing the continued danger faced by the pupils.
