Junior secondary school (JSS) will include Grades 7, 8, and 9 under the Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC).
The students will select junior secondary schools of their choice, just as KCPE candidates do. At least 2,300 public primary schools across the country have been chosen to host junior secondary schools next year.
The Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC) is quickly taking shape, with the Grade Six students currently choosing junior secondary schools for placement.
The online portal will be open from August 15 to August 30 in preparation for the January 2023 placement.
The learners, like Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) candidates, will select junior secondary schools of their choice through the online portal managed by their schools.
Students must log in to the site, and navigate to the “Grade Six register,” to choose their preferred schools.
In accordance with the selection criteria, students must choose two national schools, two regional schools, two county schools, four sub-county schools, and two private schools.

This is a difficult task because Standard Eight students from the 8-4-4 curriculum will also be joining Form One.
Currently, 2,300 public primary schools have been chosen to host junior high schools the following year.
Magoha confirmed in November 2021 that the government had disbursed KSh 4 billion to facilitate the construction of junior secondary school classrooms.

The funding was intended to ensure that the government meets its target of constructing 10,000 classrooms to serve at least 1.2 million learners in Grade Six by 2023, with a tentative deadline of July 2022.
