Grade 7 Pupil drowns While Heading To SchoolA 14-year-old Grade Seven student at Baraka Primary School in Cherang’any constituency drowned on his way to school on Wednesday in the River Nzoia.Obadiah Korir, Area Assistant Chief, said schoolchildren usually take a different route and wondered how the child decided to cross the river.“"It’s not clear how the child drowned,” he explained. Because of the heavy rain, he said it took some time to retrieve the body from the river.“The heavy downpour and swollen Nzoia River hampered the operation until 6pm, when the body was retrieved,” he said.The body was moved to the Kitale County Hospital mortuary because there were no visible marks on it.Elsewhere, a 17-year-old form three boy was allegedly killed by his friend in Homa Bay County after they disagreed during a drinking spree.The incident occurred in a bar at the Lwanda Trading Center in Kobita, Ndhiwa Sub-county.Joash Osuju, the Area Chief, confirmed that a day scholar from a nearby Secondary School was injured and bled to death after an altercation with a young man he was drinking with.“After bickering for some minutes, the suspect left the bar for home from where he picked a panga, returned to the bar and pounced on the deceased with it,” said Osuju.Those nearby, he said, intervened, but the suspect escaped.The deceased suffered serious head injuries and was rushed to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital for treatment, where he died of excessive bleeding shortly after arriving.Osuju stated that the reasons for the disagreement and subsequent fight had not been determined.“They began bickering while drunk. We don’t know the reason which made them differ,” Osuju said.The Administrator stated that he had communicated with officers from the Ndhiwa Police Station, who are pursuing the suspect.ALSO READ:“The suspect fled the village after the incident. We are working closely with the police to trace him,” Osuju added.According to the Chief, the suspect, who dropped out of school in class seven years ago, was a friend of the slain student.The body was taken to the Mortuary at Homa Bay County Referral Hospital.Grade 7 Pupil drowns While Heading To School
