Govt Unveils New Curriculum for Middle East Jobs Seekers
The Kenyan government has recently introduced a new curriculum aimed at preparing citizens who are considering working in the Middle East.
The announcement was made by the Principal Secretary of the Labour and Social Protection Ministry, Geoffrey Kaituko, during a meeting with private recruitment agencies and home care providers.
In the past, pre-departure training has been provided to Kenyans traveling to Europe for postgraduate studies. However, now, with the new curriculum, Kenyans heading to Gulf countries will be given training that focuses on basic Arabic and the culture of Saudi Arabia.
Kaituko believes that if Kenyans learn these two things, 90% of the problems faced by migrants will be resolved.
Additionally, the government has promised to form a committee made up of key stakeholders to address the issues faced by Kenyan migrant workers.
The committee will be made up of 15 members and will meet monthly with an annual general meeting to review progress in streamlining the sector.
The Kenyan government has made a significant effort in recent times to protect the welfare of its citizens abroad. In September 2022, President William Ruto created the State Department for Diaspora Affairs.
In October of the same year, the Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary, Alfred Mutua, announced measures to protect Kenyans working outside the country, especially in the Gulf countries.
During a meeting with representatives of employment agents who recruit Kenyans for jobs in Saudi Arabia and other regions, Mutua stated that the goal was to address the root cause of the challenges faced by Kenyans working abroad and to work with governments and states to provide opportunities for Kenyans.
In conclusion, the Kenyan government is taking the welfare of its citizens abroad seriously and is working to provide them with the necessary resources and support to ensure their well-being.
The new pre-departure curriculum, committee, and government efforts demonstrate the government’s commitment to addressing the issues faced by Kenyan migrant workers.
