Ambassador Simon Nabukwesi, Principal Secretary, State Department for University Education and Research, has encouraged Form-four students to pursue courses that are related to their interests.

According to Nabukwesi, students are more likely to be motivated to succeed in life if they have a strong interest in the courses they choose to pursue, reducing the likelihood of running out of motivation.

Speaking at the University of Embu on Friday during an inspection tour of infrastructure projects, the PS warned students against choosing careers rashly, as this could negatively impact their output in the job market.

“The tragedy in Africa is that many people are doing jobs they do not like and thus end up doing it as a routine and not for enjoyment or perfection,” Ambassador Nabukwesi said.

“When you do what you love, you will do it with your heart in it and that is why we are encouraging students to make career choices according to their natural gifts and the capacity to enjoy learning and eventually enjoy their jobs,”

The PS stated that it was more important to find one’s purpose in life than it was to obtain a degree in order to avoid becoming lost or confused once the excitement of graduating faded.

With the Kenya Universities and Colleges Placement Service (KUCCPS) expecting to complete student placement by the end of June, the PS encouraged Form-four leavers to use the review window provided to reconsider their career options.
