A call for applications for the 2023 Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship for international students studying in Ireland has been issued.
The Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship is a fully-funded award that pays tuition fees of €5,750 per year and provides selected students with a stipend of €18,500 per year.

Scholarship recipients are also entitled to research fees of €3,250 per year for their studies.

The Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship Programme is an established national program financed by the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation, and Science and administered by the Council.
The Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship Programme is unique within the Irish research landscape and supports other supported postgraduate education channels within the Irish ecosystem. Its features include:
Individual, prestigious rewards for outstanding research under the applicant’s name; an impartial selection procedure based on international, independent expert peer review; funding across all disciplines, from archaeology to zoology, excluding those financed by our strategic financial partners, grants and awards for bottom-up, non-directed research.
The Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship is subject to the following requirements:
There is no age restriction for eligibility for either program type.
All applicants must be linked with a qualifying Irish institution of higher education or research-performing organization.
Only applications written in Irish or English will be accepted.
Applicants must not have submitted more than two unsuccessful applications to the relevant program, including strategic partner themes, in the past two years.
This is true regardless of whether the applicant’s host institution or research topic has changed since their last submission.

The Irish Research Council is unable to award funding for research in any of the following prohibited areas:
– Human cloning for reproductive purposes.
– Genetic modification of human beings could make such changes heritable (except for research relating to cancer treatment of the gonads, which may be funded).
– The creation of human embryos solely for research or stem cell procurement, including the harvesting of embryonic stem cells, is prohibited.
