Deputy President of Kenya, Rigathi Gachagua, held a homecoming event at his former high school, Kianyaga High School, in Kirinyaga County.

During the event, Gachagua announced that the Ministry of Education, under President William Ruto’s government, has committed Ksh100 million to boost the school.

This amount includes Ksh50 million for 2023 and Ksh50 million for 2024, as well as Ksh1 million worth of books.

Gachagua expressed his gratitude for the donation, stating that the library at the school is in a dire state. The DP was accompanied by Education CS Ezekiel Machogu, governors, senators, Principal Secretaries, and the school’s alumni.

In addition to the government’s donation, Gachagua raised almost Ksh19 million during the fundraiser, with promises of further donations from leaders present. President William Ruto donated Ksh5 million, and Gachagua offered Ksh3 million.

Other pledges included constructing a swimming pool, a dining hall, and classrooms, as well as delivering 1,000 tree seedlings and 50 computers.

Gachagua toured the school’s facilities and highlighted the need for revamping, stating that the asbestos roofing must go as it is cancerous.

He called on the Ministry of Education to assist in making the school great and stated that every donation made should be returned with something that improves the school’s performance and results.

Gachagua emphasized that he put the school on the map as deputy president and called on the students and staff to put him on the map too.

The Ministry of Education’s donation to Kianyaga High School is part of the government’s commitment to improving the quality of education in the country.

The government has set aside funds to build and renovate schools, provide learning materials, and hire more teachers. The aim is to improve access to quality education and increase the number of students completing their studies.

In conclusion, the government’s donation to Kianyaga High School, along with the pledges made during the fundraiser, will go a long way in improving the school’s facilities and enhancing the quality of education provided.

It is hoped that this will inspire other individuals and organizations to support schools and help build a brighter future for the country’s children.
