The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) are scheduled for November 28 and December 23, respectively, for the 2022 academic year.

The Grade Six examination will be held between November 28 and 30, with 1.27 million candidates registered to take the first exam under the new curriculum, which will see them enter junior secondary schools.

Prof. George Magoha, Cabinet Secretary for Education, has directed that all schools close by Tuesday to prepare for the upcoming General Election next week.

Magoha has ordered that all primary and secondary schools close by tomorrow to prepare for the August 9 elections.

According to a press release issued on Monday, schools should release students for an early mid-term break of ten days, with classes returning on Thursday, August 11, 2022.

Magoha had indicated over the weekend that the institutions would close on Saturday, but that the decision to close them on Tuesday was informed by additional consultations.

“The Country is scheduled to conduct the general election on the 9th of August 2022. I hereby convey the Government’s decision on the immediate closure of all basic learning institutions with effect from Tuesday 2nd August 2022, until Wednesday 10th August 2022 to ensure that preparations and conduct of the upcoming election is carried out seamlessly,” stated Magoha.

Magoha was clear, however, that if a repeat election is required, the dates may be revised. He also acknowledged that the national exam calendar might be impacted.
