Form Three Student Arrested For Murder of KSCE Candidate
A 17-year-old form three student in Lamu East has been apprehended by the police for fatally stabbing another student at their school.
The suspect, identified as Mohamed Idarus, was discovered hiding in a house in Tchundwa village and was arrested on Wednesday evening.
Lamu County Police Commander William Samoei confirmed that the suspect is currently being held at Kizingitini police station, where he is undergoing interrogation regarding the attack.
The incident occurred on Monday morning when the form three suspect, who had a knife concealed under his shirt, approached the victim, Mohamed Bakari a KCSE candidate, and proceeded to stab him multiple times.
Shortly after the attack, the KCSE candidate succumbed to his injuries, while the suspect managed to escape from the scene.
As a result of the unrest that followed, the school has been indefinitely closed, and the students have been sent home.
The deceased was laid to rest on the same day at Faza Town cemetery in accordance with Muslim traditions, under tight security measures.
The county commissioner has stated that the suspect will be facing charges of murder and is expected to be arraigned soon.
Tensions remain high between the deceased’s village of Faza and the assailant’s village of Tchundwa in Lamu East.
The two groups engaged in a violent confrontation at the school premises, leading to the intervention of the police. The local community is demanding justice for the deceased.
Lamu county education director Joshua Kaaga has mentioned that the school may reopen next week, although no specific date has been provided.
The closure was implemented due to the volatile situation and to ensure the safety of the students and staff.
