Next week, the Ministry of Education will initiate the Form One selection process for students who sat for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in 2023.

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu, speaking at Mitihani House in Nairobi during the release of the 2023 KCPE results, stated that the Form One placement will commence on November 27.

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu announced on Monday, November 27, 2023, that the placement process will commence and conclude within two weeks. This timeframe is designed to provide parents and guardians with ample time to prepare their children for enrollment in Form One in the year 2024.

Machogu guaranteed that the Ministry would utilize a firmly established system to ensure credible and unbiased placement outcomes in order to facilitate a complete transition for the 1,406,557 candidates.

Machogu emphasized that the Ministry has established a fair and transparent system for Form One placement to ensure a balance at the national, regional, and socio-economic levels. He urged all parents to take advantage of the 100 per cent transition policy, expressing confidence in the government’s readiness to implement the policy effectively.

When assigning students to Form One, the authorities consider factors such as affirmative action, merit, and school choice.

Kenya implemented the Policy on Universal Access to Basic Education in 2018.

The policy strives to ensure the enrollment of every child in primary school and the successful completion of their secondary school education, achieving a one hundred percent transition rate.

In light of the conclusion of the KCPE examinations, Machogu further declared the government’s intention to administer special examinations in January of the following year for individuals who were unable to sit for the 2023 KCPE exams.

Regarding candidates unable to sit for the examination, Machogu mentioned an indicative figure of 9,354. The CS has granted candidates the opportunity to take the next examinations in January, enabling them to proceed to Form One.
