Form Four Leaver Sets Himself Ablaze in Land Dispute
Residents of Kiamuvuro village in Embu County are in disbelief following the self-immolation of a Form Four graduate following a domestic dispute.
The Tuesday night incident left 18-year-old Gregory Mugane irretrievably burned.
According to witnesses, the young man, who graduated from secondary school last year, confronted his mother and demanded a portion of the family’s land to plant his own coffee.
However, his mother advised him to hold off until she harvested her beans. He subsequently went insane and locked himself in his wooden home.
He doused himself in gasoline and set himself on fire, much to the surprise of the locals.
The efforts of his parents and neighbors to save him were unsuccessful.
The house was completely destroyed, and nothing was saved.
House razed
Assistant Chief Stephen Mbogo of Gicherore stated that he rushed to the scene and discovered the man dead and the house destroyed.
“It is true the man wanted to be given a piece of land to grow coffee and when he could not be allocated it, he immediately took his own life,” Mr Mbogo said.
William Owino, deputy county commissioner for Embu North, advised young people to resolve conflicts with their parents amicably rather than taking their own lives.

“Why should a young man take his own life simply for disagreeing with his mother?” he asked.
He urged young people to consult administrators instead of committing suicide over issues that can be easily resolved.
Mr. Owino stated that the victim’s remains were transported to a mortuary.
