Fire at Nyakioba Mixed Secondary School Destroys Dormitory, Incurs Millions in Property Loss
Property worth millions of shillings was lost in a devastating fire that engulfed a dormitory at Nyakioba Mixed Secondary School in Kisii county, with no reported injuries. The incident, whose cause remains unknown, occurred on Friday.
Immediate intervention from the local community helped suppress the flames before the arrival of the fire engine operators. The collaborative effort showcased the need for a well-prepared response system.

Expressing concern over the escalating incidents of fires, Kisii County Commissioner Tom Anjere emphasized the necessity of partnership with the county government to address the issue. He proposed a comprehensive plan, including:
- Installation of fire hydrants in every sub-county.
- Adequate provision of fire engines for prompt response.
