Family Grieve Loss of Form One Son by Suicide
A family in Kirinyaga is grieving after their teenage son, who was about to start high school, died by suicide.
Caleb Murimi, 14, who had recently taken the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination, was found hanging from the roof of the family’s home in Kibingoti village on Tuesday afternoon.
His father, James Gatithi, reported that the cause of his son’s suicide is unknown, as he hanged himself using a cloth.
The father of the young boy has spoken out about the tragic incident.
Mr Gatithi said he was away in Karatina when he received news of his son’s death and upon returning home, found the lifeless body of his child inside the house.
He stated that his son had recently received an admission letter to a school in Murang’a, and was not showing any signs of depression before his death.
Mr Gatithi also shared that his son had even given him a list of school supplies to purchase and had accompanied him and his brothers that morning before he left for Karatina.
The matter has been reported to the police for investigation, and the family is now making funeral arrangements for the deceased whom they described as hardworking and obedient.
Unfortunately, the cases of suicide are on the rise in the Kirinyaga area, causing concern among the religious leaders and residents.
It is unclear what is causing the increase in suicide rates in Kirinyaga, but it is important for the community to come together to address this issue and provide support for those who may be struggling with mental health issues.
It is important for the government and local organizations to take action to provide education, resources and support for those who may be at risk of suicide, and for those who have lost loved ones to suicide.
Additionally, it is important for the community to create a supportive and non-judgmental environment where individuals can openly talk about their mental health without fear of stigmatization.
