Ex-Education CS George Magoha Goes Back to Teaching
Former Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha now works at Maseno University.
Magoha will now serve as a Surgery professor at the School of Medicine.
In 2011, Maseno’s School of Medicine was established and set to manage referral cases that are often sent to Nairobi or Eldoret.
Magoha served as head of the Kenya National Education Council prior to his appointment as Education CS in March 2019. (KNEC)
He also served as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nairobi from 2005 to 2015.
He was the face of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) for three years, during which he championed curriculum revisions.
Magoha also enabled a seamless transition to secondary school for all students.
Regularly, he was observed traveling from house to home in the slums to guarantee that students who completed primary school enrolled in secondary schools.
In an August 2022 discussion with journalists, Magoha alluded to returning to his clinic at the Nairobi Hospital.
In the clinic, he serves as a urologist and treats urinary tract illnesses.
“If you have problems passing urine, don’t be afraid. You can visit my clinic at Nairobi Hospital. In fact, just show your press card and you might get special treatment,” he told journalists.
His medical profession has taken him to Nigeria, Ghana, Ireland, and the United Kingdom for work and training. In addition, he received Executive Management training at Stanford University.
In Nigeria, he began his career as a surgical intern at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital before advancing to senior surgical resident and clinical lecturer.
Later, in 1988, he joined the University of Nebraska as a Lecturer in Urological Surgery and ascended through the ranks to become a full Professor of Surgery by 2000.
