Education Official Rules Out Electricity as Cause of Kapsirowa School Fire as Probe Begins
A peculiar fire occurrence at Kapsirowa Secondary School in Trans Nzoia is currently under investigation by detectives from the region. The incident, which transpired on a Saturday, resulted in the complete destruction of a boys’ dormitory in a daytime inferno.
More than 150 students are grappling with significant losses as a consequence of the fire that consumed the dormitory. Those who were absent during the incident lost all their belongings, including clothes, personal items, and pocket money.

John Obwoge, the Trans Nzoia East sub-County Education Quality Assurance officer, conducted a visit to the school to assess the situation.
According to him, the cause of the fire remains unknown, eliminating electricity as a potential culprit since the dormitory is powered by solar panels.
Obwoge urged students to share any information they may have about the incident to aid in the investigation.
Addressing the issue, Obwoge stated, “From our preliminary investigations, it is clear somebody’s hand is involved, and I want to assure you we shall deal firmly and decisively with whoever might have been involved.”
Legal action will be taken against any student identified as responsible for the destruction, he added. Local leaders have also called for support from well-meaning Kenyans and leaders to assist the affected school.

“While we condemn this criminal act, we urge the government to use emergency funds to support this school and the affected students so that learning can go back to normalcy,” commented John Njuguna, a local leader.
In response to the incident, Chepsiro/Kiptoror ward Member of County Assembly Kipchumba Birir called upon the county government to allocate funds for fire engines in every sub-County. He emphasized the need for increased firefighting capabilities, proposing, “Consider buying at least one fire engine in every sub-County.”
As investigations into the incident unfold, the affected boys spent the night in a classroom while the school administration sought an alternative facility to accommodate the students.
County Criminal Investigations Officer Francis Kihara confirmed the launch of a probe by detectives into the fire incident.
