Education Ministry Disputes Claims of Boarding Fee Increases for 2026 Senior Secondary Transition.

The Ministry of Education has now had to put out a statement calling out reports that they are planning to jack up boarding fees for Extra-County and County secondary schools once the CBC kids make the transition to Senior Secondary in 2026.

This all started when a document popped up earlier in the week called “Guidelines for the Implementation of Senior Secondary School Education,” which said that all secondary schools would have to adopt the same annual tuition fee of Sh53,554, which just so happens to be the same as what National schools charge right now.

As it stands currently, Extra-County schools are charging Sh45,554 while County schools are charging Sh40,554.

The fact that some schools could see a hike as per the proposal really got parents and school administrators spooked, to the point where they were taking to social media to air their worries.

Cabinet Secretary for Education Julius Ogamba filled the public in on Thursday by saying that no decision has been made to raise those fees in public senior secondary schools.

The official statement from the Ministry of Education said the reports floating around the media are completely off base and not in line with any Government policy that has been actually agreed upon.

Education Secretary Julius Ogamba said, “Our attention has been drawn to reports in sections of the media to the effect that boarding fees payable by learners in public senior schools has been revised upwards.

Parents, learners and the general public are hereby notified that there has been no revision of boarding fees, or any other fees, payable by learners.”

The Ministry went on to say that the Kenyan Government is going to keep on chipping in on capitation for all public secondary schools at the rate of Sh22,244 per kid each year, and therefore, no changes to the fees have been agreed upon for the 2026 rollout of Senior Secondary Schools.
