Education CS Machogu, Governor Simba Arati Trade Blows At Kisii Funeral

Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu and Kisii Governor Simba Arati engaged in a heated public exchange during a funeral ceremony in the region on Friday.

The confrontation escalated when a group of youths booed CS Machogu while he was delivering President William Ruto’s speech at Kisii Polytechnic grounds during the burial of the institution’s head, Daniel Nyariki.

Machogu condemned Arati, suggesting that the governor had influenced the youth to instigate chaos at the event. “Gavana afanye maendeleo si kelele,” said Machogu, criticizing Arati’s leadership style.

Subsequently, Machogu left the podium without inviting the governor to make his address, prompting Arati to accuse the CS of collaborating with rogue police officers to disrupt peace in Kisii County. “Hii kelele yote inapigwa…ni wezi ambao tumekanyagia wao,” said Arati, criticizing Machogu’s actions.

During his speech, Governor Arati also criticized Kisii County Commissioner Bowen for allegedly fueling the chaos. Bowen, in turn, suggested Arati’s involvement in the unrest, stating, “Ni maajabu sana kama kuna kiongozi katika yetu ambaye anaweza chochea vijana wapige kelele.”

In response, Arati dismissed Bowen’s authority, saying, “Ambia huyu County Commissioner hawezi tisha sisi. Atafanya nini? Ulikuwa DCC hapa Nyamarambe, umekuja hapa ukamea pembe.”
