ECDE Teachers To Enjoy Enhanced Perks Under New Scheme of Service.
Teachers of Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) in Nyandarua County have reason to rejoice after Governor Francis Kimemia honored an agreement that will see them enjoy increased benefits.
Mr Kimemia reiterated his commitment to improving Early Childhood Education in the county by empowering tutors and carrying out infrastructure development when he issued letters of engagement to 381 teachers on Friday.
They will be hired on a permanent and pensionable basis and will each be paid Sh10,000 per month.
“If you recall, education was one of the key pillars in my manifesto. I pledge to improve and modernise our ECDEs as a way of boosting our early education. I also promised to look at the critical component of human resources,” said the governor.

The Department of Education collaborated with the County Public Service Board, the Ministry of Public Service, the Public Service Commission, and the Teachers Service Commission to create the Scheme of Service.
Governor Kimemia stated yesterday that the new Scheme of Service provides better remuneration for ECDE teachers who have been underpaid for a long time, as well as a clear career progression path.
“In the Scheme of Service, an ECDE teacher can be employed as an Assistant Teacher in Job Group F and retire as a Director ECDE Quality Assurance Director at Job Group R after furthering education and having demonstrated good leadership skills,” he said.
381 serving preparatory assistants will be absorbed on permanent terms of service as part of the Scheme of Service implementation.
An additional 200 teachers will be hired to help alleviate the county’s ECDE teacher shortage. Preparatory assistants will benefit from a new and improved monthly package under the new scheme. It will also provide teachers with career progression
Certificate holders will enter the Scheme of Service at Job Group ‘E,’ Diploma holders at Job Group ‘H,’ and Degree holders at Job Group ‘K.’
Certificate holders will also be able to advance from job group ‘E’ to job group ‘K’ under the scheme.
Diploma holders will advance from the job group ‘H’ to the job group ‘N.’ Degree holders will advance from the entry level of job group ‘K’ to job group ‘R.’

It also provides teachers with opportunities for ongoing training from the county.
It is expected that the scheme will also attract more people and encourage existing ones to pursue higher education for personal career advancement.
“The Scheme of Service will motivate teachers leading to improved performance and service delivery. There will be improved learner management by the motivated teachers and lessen the burden on parents paying private tutors,” Kimemia said.
