East Africa International University Appoints Amina Mohamed As chancellor
On February 15, 2023, the International University of East Africa (IUEA) held a ceremony to install Amina Chawahir Mohamed, former Kenyan cabinet secretary for Sports, Heritage and Culture, as its new chancellor.
The institution expressed optimism that Amina’s leadership would guide the university towards more outstanding achievements.
In her acceptance speech, Amina promised to do her best to equip the students with the tools that would magnify and amplify their chances of success in life.
She is a lawyer and a diplomat of Somali descent who has served as the chairwoman of the International Organization for Migration and the World Trade Organization’s General Council, as well as the Assistant Secretary-General and Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme.
Amina takes over from Professor Emmanuel Tumusiime-Mutebile, who died in December 2022. Professor Mutebile was the first chancellor of IUEA and the governor of the Bank of Uganda.
The institution hopes that Amina’s appointment will help to maintain and improve its reputation as a prestigious institution in Uganda.
IUEA is a non-profit private university in Uganda that offers academic programs in engineering, business, law, science, and technology. The Uganda National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) has chartered it as a university, and it has a multicultural environment with students and faculty from various backgrounds.
The institution has a mission to provide quality education and training that responds to the needs of society and the economy.
With Amina as its new chancellor, the university hopes to continue to provide quality education to its students and contribute to the development of the country.
