A dormitory at Ngelani Boys High School in Machakos county has been destroyed by fire.
Francis Nzioka, regional fire commander for the Machakos County Government, stated that property of unknown value was damaged during the event on Monday evening.
“The night inferno consumed a section of the dormitory destroying it completely. Some students lost all their personal effects to the incident, but there were neither reported casualties nor injuries,” Nzioka said.
He stated that there were no injuries or fatalities and that the cause of the fire was not immediately determined.
“The fire was fierce and it consumed mattresses, bedding and other personal belongings of the students,” he said.
50 Form One pupils resided in the dormitory of the school located on the Ngelani hills in the Machakos subcounty.
The fire, according to Nzioka, damaged 14 mattresses, bedding, school uniforms, cartons, cooking equipment, and other personal items.
Nzioka stated that a Machakos county government fire brigade halted the blaze, preventing it from spreading to adjacent structures.
Locals joined the efforts to extinguish the blaze.
Monday, police in Machakos and other relevant authorities investigated the cause of the fire at the school.
