DCI nabs key suspect in Gatuto Primary School Headteacher’s kidnapping.
A suspect linked to the kidnapping of Gatuto Primary School Headteacher, Joshua Kerai, in Kirinyaga County has been arrested.
The arrest was confirmed after detectives from DCI conducted an operation and the suspect was among three who allegedly kidnapped the headteacher on November 4, 2025 in Kagumo, Kirinyaga County. DCI said the arrest was done by detectives from Kirinyaga East Sub-County.
According to DCI, the three alleged kidnappers waylaid the headteacher on November 4, 2025, forced him into a Toyota Ractis and drove him around for hours. DCI said the headteacher was later abandoned in the same vehicle at a petrol station in Kutus Town where he was found in distress and taken to Kerugoya for treatment.
Detectives from Kirinyaga East Sub-County started investigating immediately after the incident was reported. DCI said forensic examination and intelligence led officers to the suspect’s hideout in Kutus where the arrest was made after a sustained operation.

The arrested suspect is a known repeat offender linked to multiple serious crimes including motor vehicle theft, stock theft, robbery and shop break-ins in the region. He will be arraigned in court as investigations continue. Two other suspects are on the run.
DCI announced the arrest a day after another school administrator went missing. Munyuki Secondary School Principal who had been missing for days was found dead in Kipkaren River on November 8, 2025. Preliminary information indicated the incident was staged as an accident but investigations revealed torture and murder before the body was dumped in the river.
