CS Machogu Stands Firm on KCPE Results’ Credibility Despite 1,935 Flagged Errors

According to Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu, KCPE results posted on the KNEC portal were correct, with anomalies in some results ascribed to transmission problems.

Basic Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang revealed that KNEC had identified 1,935 mistakes, which are under investigation ahead of the 60-day deadline for transmitting actual examination results.

The National Assembly Education Committee, which toured the KNEC Exam Operational Center at the Jomo Kenyatta Foundation in Nairobi, provided the most recent reaction to the KCPE 2023 results mishaps.

CS Machogu declared during the graduation ceremony at the Eldoret National Polytechnic in Uasin Gishu County.

Machogu assured Kenyans that the KCPE results were credible, emphasizing that the problem arose during the transmission process.

Several parents and schools have filed lawsuits over the irregularities following complaints from candidates who received scores for topics they had not registered for.

Inconsistencies were evident in Kiswahili and sign language, although CS Machogu has dismissed claims of faulty examination marking.

He added that the systems were functioning properly, and they had their Permanent Secretary demonstrating to the parliamentary committee how it operates.

PS Kipsang, while guiding the National Assembly Education Committee through the examination marking process, stated that 1,935 errors had been identified and are being evaluated ahead of the 60-day deadline for transmitting actual results.

“The results we provide within 60 days are provisional, confirmed results come after reviewing the errors,” he added.
