County Breakdown of TSC Promoted Teachers From Primary to JSS Schools
According to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), 10,833 primary school teachers have been promoted to junior secondary school (JSS) positions.
The TSC has released a county-by-county breakdown of the allocation. Of these promoted teachers, with Kakamega, Bungoma, Kitui, and Homa Bay counties receiving the highest numbers of promotions.
Kakamega received the highest allocation of promoted teachers with 943. Other top counties are Bungoma with 672, Kitui with 624, and Homa Bay with 436.
Meru received 517, Kisumu with 501, Makueni with 490, Nakuru with 486, Machakos with 471, and Migori 463.
Other allocations includes; Siaya with 371, Busia with 351, Bomet with 293, Kisii with 284, and Trans Nzoia with 283.
The remaining counties received the following allocation of promoted teachers: Uasin Gishu with 257, Narok with 256, Nandi with 247. Vihiga got an allocation of 239, Kericho with 238, Kilifi with 230, Kiambu with 222, Tharaka Nithi with 175.
Others include Nyandarua with 163, Kajiado with 141, Kwale with 133, Nairobi with 117, Embu with 113. West Pokot with 111, Nyamira with 110, Muranga with 109, Baringo with 108, Elgeyo Marakwet with 82, Nyeri with 75, Laikipia with 74, and Taita Taveta with 67.
marginalized Counties
Counties in marginalized areas received the lowest allocation of promoted teachers. Garrisa and Mandera counties received the lowest allocation of seven promoted teachers each, followed by Tana River with 17, Marsabit with 21, Isiolo with 22, Lamu with 28, Samburu with 32, Kirinyaga with 42, Mombasa with 47, and Turkana with 54.
TSC required the promoted teachers to report to their new work stations by February 19 in order to reduce the shortage of teachers caused by the introduction of the new curriculum.
TSC boss Nancy Macharia said that the promoted teachers had applied for promotion through an online platform. The commission had done verification of personal files to identify 10,833 primary school teachers with the requisite qualifications to teach in secondary schools.
The mapping process of primary school teachers eligible to teach in JSS is still ongoing to identify more teachers eligible for promotion.
