A police officer tasked with manning a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam center was arrested yesterday after fleeing.
According to a police statement the officer, a police constable, left his station at Koiban Secondary School around 2 p.m. to conduct an illegal raid in the Kimngoror area of Nandi County.
The officer assigned to the Kamungei Police Post allegedly went to a homestead one kilometer away to conduct an operation targeting illegal brewers.
In what was later determined to be an unannounced raid, the police constable began ransacking the compound.
The owner of the homestead objected to the uninvited officer’s actions, causing a commotion.
The ensuing melee drew the attention of curious residents who arrived at the compound. They cornered him and threatened to lynch him after being enraged by the officer’s raid on their neighbor’s property.
Before being apprehended for processing, the officer was rescued by the local area chief, who informed the Chepterwai Police post of the dramatic turn of events.
When questioned, the officer failed to provide a credible reason for leaving the center or who gave him the order to carry out the sting.

“The OCS Chepterwai Police Station rushed to the scene and upon interrogation, the officer was unable to give a sustainable account as to why he had left the exam center and who had assigned him illicit liquor operations,” the statement read in part.
As a result, his firearm was confiscated. The case has been handed over to the Nandi County Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for further investigation.
The officer’s name is added to the list of men in uniform arrested during the KCPE and KCPE national examinations. On March 7, several police officers were apprehended and their phones confiscated after allegedly photographing exam papers.
