The government has started the second phase of building CBC classrooms to support the country’s new education curriculum.

The government is building 3,500 additional Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) classrooms across the country.

This follows the successful completion of phase one of the project, which included the construction of 6,500 classrooms.

The state intends to fund the construction of 10,000 classrooms by the end of the program’s Second Phase, which will last three months like the First Phase.

Cabinet Secretary for Education George Magoha stated that the contractors have been given four weeks to complete the project.

He stated that the government was committed to ensuring the smooth implementation of the new curriculum, urging National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) and education officers to ensure that classrooms are delivered within the time frame specified.

Private schools, he added, were expected to build an additional 4, 000 classrooms, bringing the total number of new Junior Secondary classrooms in the country to 14, 000.

“We are encouraging the private schools to construct stand-alone junior high schools. We are currently inspecting the facilities to ensure that they meet the required specifications,” he said.

The infrastructure program is being implemented as part of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Kenya Economic Stimulus Package, which will be completed on October 20, 2021.

Primary schools will be up to Grade Six under the CBC program, while Junior Secondary will include Grades Seven, Eight, and Nine.

The students will attend Senior Secondary for Grades 10, 11, and 12 before enrolling in various course programs at the university for three years.
