Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) Implementation At Top Gear

Dr. Esther Thaara Muoria, principal secretary of the State Department for Technical, Vocational, and Educational Training (TVET), stated that the TVET sector is implementing competency-based education curriculum training (CBET) in their institutions to ensure that students are completely equipped.

According to Dr. Muoria, the curriculum will guarantee that academic establishments produce graduates who will constitute a proficient and equipped labor force by acquiring fifty percent theoretical knowledge and fifty percent practical skills through industrial training.

In a speech delivered on her behalf by Makueni County Director In Charge of TVET John Wamae on Tuesday, Dr. Muoria emphasized the significance of the Makueni Agricultural Training Centre’s (MATC) technical and vocational college’s inauguration at Kwa Kathoka in Makueni Sub-county.

With the current implementation of a new CBET curriculum, TVET emphasizes industrial training for 50% and theory for the remaining 50%. Muoria explained that the program would guarantee that institutions produce graduates in high industry demand.

She stated that the department collaborates with industry stakeholders and experts to ensure the curriculum remains pertinent and in line with the industry’s ever-changing requirements and demands.

Dr. Muoria praised the training center for providing the students with the knowledge and skills necessary for the agricultural industry’s sustainable advancement.

“Our objective is to cultivate not only technically proficient individuals but also an entrepreneurial and creative mindset by supporting students in their journey towards becoming pioneers, innovators, and authorities in agriculture,” she elaborated.

“The center will also benefit the community by providing agricultural solutions, unlocking opportunities for sustainable growth, and enhancing food security while contributing to the overall progress of our nation,” she added.

According to Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior, the training institute is a pillar of sustainable agricultural production development in the region because it provides students with practical experience in livestock management, agribusiness management, and crop production.

Mutula stated that, in collaboration with partners, the government shall renovate and furnish the establishment while furnishing trainees with seed capital to launch their businesses.

Mutula stated that the inauguration of this college represents the state’s dedication to augmenting agricultural productivity by fostering the social growth and skill enhancement of both young individuals and adults.

He requested that TVET provide the institution with a capitation fund to assist it.
