Commonwealth Conference of Education Ministers Kicks Off In Nairobi.Education ministers from 54 countries are meeting in Nairobi right now to discuss some of the Commonwealth’s most pressing educational challenges.The two-day Commonwealth Conference of Education Ministers, which begins today, brings together partners and stakeholders from member countries to discuss education priorities.Prof George Magoha, Cabinet Secretary for Education, is expected to lead the Kenyan delegation to the meeting, which will take place at the Safari Park Hotel.Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers, actors, higher education, and members of civil society organizations will also attend the meeting.The meeting’s theme this year is ‘’Rethinking education for innovation work and Sustainability post-Covid -19.’’Participants at the meeting will concentrate on critical areas of recovery in education.Other areas of focus, aside from post-Covid-19, include digital transformation, effective governance, and the transition from school to work.Today’s sessions will include a ministerial panel on regional perspectives and priorities, a panel on research, evidence, and policies related to key sub-themes, a ministerial Roundtable, and a discussion on lessons learned from Covid-19 mitigation and recovery strategies.Rethinking Education for Decent Work and Employability, Redefining Learning Spaces, Multiple Pathways and Flexible Approaches, Education Financing, including Innovative Financing, and Education for Sustainability and a Peaceful Cohesive Commonwealth will also be discussed.The meeting follows another last year in which ministers committed to ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning.The conference will also provide an opportunity to discuss key aspects of how member countries dealt with the Covid-19 disruption.The meeting will also build on commitments to achieve long-term development goals.The Commonwealth Education and Learning Agenda, as well as its relationship with other sustainable development priorities, is the most important forum for deliberation.After the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, the CCEM is the Commonwealth Secretariat’s second-largest meeting (CHOGM).Since 1959, when the first meeting was held in Oxford, CCEMs have been held roughly every three years.ALSO READ:It is also the location of the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP), an intra-Commonwealth network of post-graduate study opportunities with over 25,000 alumni – including several Heads of Government.The Commonwealth Education Conferences (CEC) series of conferences was renamed the Conference of Commonwealth Education Ministers (CCEM) on the 25th anniversary in 1984, on the occasion of the 9th Conference in Cyprus.Commonwealth Conference of Education Ministers Kicks Off In Nairobi
